Abstract: The research attempts to explore Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices particularly in the context of rural development. The main objective was to explore, the extent to which the mining sector in Zimbabwe promotes socio-economic development through CSR employed by Unki Mines in Shurugwi rural. The study established the effectiveness of CSR strategies in rural socio-economic development and recommended approaches to make Unki mines CSR strategies effective for rural socio-economic development. For the purpose, Unki Mines management and Unki Mines employees, housing contractors, traditional leaders, the district administrator, Tongogara RDC staff and villagers were selected to participate in the study. A qualitative methodology was used. Literature was reviewed using published journals and books. Participatory observations, questionnaires and in-depth interviews were used to collect data. The paper concludes that corporate social responsibility; contribute to rural socio-economic development although the extent must not be over emphasized. Positive impacts are not only on the development of rural community, but also have a positive impact on the company’s operations. The author reveal some lesson on CSR practices at Unki Mines which can provide guidance to corporate social responsibility.
